SPECT Radiopharmaceuticals

Most of the SPECT procedures are based on ^99mTc. Traditionally technetium chemistry is dominated by [Tc=O] oxo core. The first generation ^99mTc radiopharmaceuticals are based on highly sensitive but non-specific “catch-all” approach such as ^99m Tc-MDP bone scans. Second generation ^99mTc radiopharmaceuticals are based on “catch-one” approach and these are highly sensitive and highly specific.

 Many of the second generation ^99mTc radiopharmaceuticals based on new cores such as [Tc≡N]²⁺ core, [Tc(CO)₃]⁺ core, and [Tc]HYNIC core.
