¹³N-Ammonia

¹³N-Ammonia has been proved to be a good indicator of myocardialblood flow and a reflection of metabolic integrity. Metabolic trapping of ¹³N-ammonia in brain and myocardium occurs primarily via the glutamate-glutaminepathway. ¹³N-ammonia has been used extensively for the assessment of myocardial perfusion with PET. This tracer exhibits high, single-pass extraction by the myocardium and relatively prolonged retention in the heart. ¹³N- ammonia provides extremely high-quality images of the myocardium in most cases.
